Here at the Lenawee Humane Society, we believe that that adding a dog or cat to your family is a big decision - one that requires a lot of thinking with both your head and your heart.

If you and your family are thinking about getting a Pet, then consider these important points before you make your decision.

Firstly, you'd have to ask yourselves exactly why you want a pet. Discussing your likes and dislikes is a great time to understand what exactly you want. It also allows you to have some idea of what breed or type pr pet to bring home.

We also believe in the importance of education. That is, teach your family and yourself about caring for Pets before you adopt. There are a lot of useful resources you can use to learn about Pet Care

Of course, you'd also have to make sure that everyone in your family is ready for the changes of bringing a new animal into your home. Animals like puppies need a lot of attention and training - you can easily end up with chewed up household items if you're not careful. Another thing to note is that they don't remain small for long - they grow very quickly. A lot of young animals have needle-sharp nails and teeth and that can hurt your children by accident during playtime.
