Basics of Essential Oils

Here at the Herb Peddler, we have a large selection of natural Essential Oils for you to choose from. 

An Essential Oil simple a product that is obtained from natural raw material. They are generally done by distillation with water and steam, or from the epicarp - outer layer - of citrus fruits by the process of dry distillation.

They are generally referred to as the life force of plants as these  essential oils are in fact, volatile and very highly concentrated. They are often substances extracted from flowers, leaves, stems, roots, seeds, bark, resin or fruit rinds. 

In fact, the amount of essential oils that are found in these plants can be anywhere from 0.01 percent to 10 percent of the total. Hence, that is the reason why it takes tons of plant material for just a few hundred pounds of oil.
